David Morgan Altizer, 90, Patriot, passed away at 2:15 A.M. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 in his Perry Township home. Born June 26, 1925 in the Northup community he was the son of the late David Riley and Etta Morgan Altizer.  David grew up on a dairy farm at Adamsville which is now a part of the Bob Evans Farms. David and his late wife, Etta, were well-known Perry Township dairy farmers. He was a life time member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Rio Grande and a Navy veteran of World War II. David served on the Gallia County Dairy Board and he received an award for outstanding accomplishments in resource conservation from the Gallia County Soil & Water Conservation District. The Altizer family was named “Farm Family of the Year" several years ago.

David married Etta L. Walker on August 17, 1947 at Cora and she preceded him in death on January 8, 2016.  He is survived by his two sons, David R. (Zee) Altizer, Spokane, Washington and Gary (Elizabeth) Altizer, Thurman, Ohio, two grandchildren, Brian Altizer and Teresa (Jason) Lyons, both of Spokane, Washington, three great-grandchildren, Brett Lambert, Meridyan Lyons and Sydney Altizer, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Orva Heissenbuttel, Montross, Virginia, Marcella and John Gilliam, Gallipolis, Mary and Vic Niday, Gallipolis and Karen and Jim McElwee, White Stone, Virginia.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Sadie Williams, Vern Altizer, Edna Johnson, Garnet Blazer, Hazel Rice and Orie Altizer and brothers-in-law, Bill Heissenbuttel and Jack Harrison.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 24, 2016 in the Calvary Baptist Church, Rio Grande. Officiating will be Rev. Vinton Rankin and Rev. Heath Jenkins.

Interment will be in the Tyn Rhos Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail Team.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in David’s memory to the Vinton Baptist Church Food Pantry, 1118 State Route 160, Vinton, OH 45686 or the Gallia County Junior Fair Long Range Improvement Plan, P.O. Box 931, Gallipolis, OH 45631. David’s funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Cremeens Funeral Chapel.
