Wendell R. Haner

Wendell R. Haner, 81, Gallipolis, passed away at 11:25 A.M. Saturday,  June 10, 2017, in the Hospice Suite at the Holzer Medical Center. Born September 6, 1935 in the Swan Creek Community of Gallia County he was the son of the late Russell and Fannie Francis Neal Haner, Sr. Wendell worked for the Martin Ford and Thaler Ford dealerships early in his life as a mechanic, later he went on to work for the Ahern highway construction company and the West Virginia Paving Company. Wendell retired after completion of the West Virginia Turnpike which he worked on for many years. Later in his life, Wendell enjoyed mowing lawns in his spare time and raising a garden every summer. Wendell was one who couldn’t sit still very long and he loved being active.  He was a member of the Construction Workers Local # 543 out of Huntington, West Virginia.

Wendell is  survived by his wife, Lillia Mae Fellure Haner, whom he married, on April 21, 1962 in Gallipolis, his son, Tony (Susan) Haner, his two daughters, Jane Haner of Gallipolis, and Jean (Tim) Bevan, of Crown City, two grandchildren, Mykal (Jenn Ball) Haner and Taylor Bevan, three adopted grandchildren, Adam Conrad, Alisha Conrad Ludwig and Jonathan Conrad. His brothers, Adrian “Buddy” (Gladys) Haner, Kenneth (Marsha) Haner, Robert (Carolyn) Haner, all of Gallipolis, sisters, Mary (Jr.) Lewis, Flatwoods, Kentucky, Josie Mowery, Springfield, Ohio, Harriett Martin, Gallipolis, sisters-in-law, Clara Haner, Hilda Haner and Wyllodine Barker, all of Gallipolis, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Wendell also had a great circle of friends.

In addition to his parents, Wendell was preceded in death by brothers, Russell Haner Jr., James “Jim” Haner, Jerry Haner and a sister, Hilda Haner Barcus.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 14, 2017, in the Cremeens-King Funeral Chapel. Pastor Randy Carnes will officiate and interment will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Mercerville. Active casketbearers are Buddy Haner, Bobby Haner, Mykal Haner, Kenny Haner, Tim Bevan and Jonathan Conrad. Honorary casketbearers are David Mink, John McGuire, Brent Davies, and Don Cox. Friends may call from 5-8 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Wendell’s memory to the Holzer Hospice, 100 Jackson Pike, Gallipolis, Ohio  45631.
