Helen L. Diddle, 95, of Syracuse, passed away at 12:32 am on Sunday, October 22, 2017 in the Edgewood Manor, Wellston, Ohio. Born December 9, 1921 in Wellston, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Cynthia Buckley Newman. She was a retired cook at Southern Local Schools and a member of the Former Syracuse Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Terry) Gough, of Syracuse, grandchildren, Charles J. Handley, Jr., of Athens, and Rebecca L. Smith, of Pomeroy, four great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren. Sisters, Maxine Jacobs, of Wellston, Wanda Childers, of Wellston, and Katie Holcomb, of Marion, Ohio, a brother, Robert Slavens, of Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Diddle, in 1984, a great-grandson, J.J. Handley, brothers, Eddie Newman, William Newman, John Slavens, Earl Vinton Slavens, and Dick Slavens, sisters, Malvinia Burke and Betty Jean Slavens.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 1:00 pm in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Racine. Pastor Mary Janice Cundiff Lavender will officiate and interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Meigs County Senior Citizens, Meals on Wheels, 112 Memorial Road in Pomeroy, Ohio.
