Scott Epling Obituary

Scott Brian Epling, 61,Gallipolis, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio. Scott, named for the Rev. Scott Westerman, was born April 15, 1957 in Gallipolis, Ohio, son of Barbara Cardwell Epling, of Gallipolis and the late Miles T. Epling. Scott had resided with his mother in Gallipolis for the past eight years. His wife, Susan, and their daughter, Samantha (Matt) Smith, reside in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Scott enjoyed being with his four brothers and one sister and their families as often as possible. They are Mark (Diane) Epling, of Charleston, West Virginia, Brett (Cindy) Epling, of Bidwell, Dean (Regina) Epling, of Sharpsburg, Georgia, Kent (Debbie) Epling, of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Ann (Greg) Harrington, of Houston, Texas as well as eleven nieces and nephews. After playing football and graduating from the Gallia Academy High School, Scott completed his undergraduate studies as The Colorado School of Mines and earned his BSBA/MBA from Eastern New Mexico University where he played Rugby. He joined Calgom Mining, a consolidated subsidiary of Sunbelt Mining, NM. He joined a team to build/operate the Gold Stripe Project in the Sierras of Northern California, a 1,200 ton/hour gold-ore cyanide heap-leach operation. As overall business manager among his other duties he helped develop the Financial Management Language, personnel policies, managed the timber claims and sales, gold sales and compliance duties with the USFS and the California EPA. Several years later Scott returned to the Midwest working for Colsolidated GoldFields, at that time the largest mining company in the world, Under their US Subsidiary, ARC America, they acquired American Aggregates where he was responsible for various mine reclamation projects, surplus and raw land development, reserves acquisition and management, permitting, zoning, annexation and was part of the M & A Team. Scott was then offered a position with the NCR Corporation, a world leader in global technology. For the next 14 years Scott worked literally around the world developing, managing, negotiating and closing over US $ 1.0 Billion in real estate related projects on behalf of the shareholders of AT &T, Lucent Technologies and NCR/ Since 2005 he has partnered with Scott and Barbara Swain in the TCS Forestry Management in logging and development companies throughout the United States. Scott has sat on multiple public and private boards, worked for and with the US Forestry Service, the EPA, US Parks Service and the State Department of Transportation, providing subject matter expertise testimony in the FederalCourts regarding logging and mining land values. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 2 - 4 P.M. Saturday, May 5, 2018, in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home. A family memorial service will follow. Cremation arrangements have been completed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Scott's memory to the Gallipolis Neighborhood Watch Program, 333 Third Avenue, Gallipolis, OH 45631 or the TRIAD Volunteers of the Gallia County Sheriff's Department, 12 Locust Street, Gallipolis, OH  45631.
