Alberta (Van Meter) Siders

Alberta Jean “Bert” Van Meter Siders, 85, of Racine, Ohio, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, passed on to her heavenly home on March 3, 2024, at 10:10am at Overbrook Center, Middleport, Ohio.

She was born on August 26, 1938, in Portland, Ohio to Millard and Vera Van Meter who preceded her in death.  Bert has one son, Tony (Donna) Van Meter of Columbus, Ohio.  Paul Siders, husband, who preceded her in death in 2009.  Brothers who preceded her in death include Vinton Cozart and Melvin R Van Meter.

Surviving sister Carolyn Lee (David) Brooks, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, cousins Kay (Allen) Graham of Syracuse, Ohio, Gary (Joann) Wilford of Racine, Ohio, Kevin (Torrie) Wilford of Racine, Ohio, nephews Melvin (Brenda) R Van Meter Jr. of Yucaipa, California, Michael (Kathi) R Van Meter of Syracuse, Ohio, several other nieces and nephews and special friends including Nancy (Kenny) Fisher of Sade, Ohio, former sister-in-law who always said “we love each other like sisters”, Vernie, her best friend, and Kim, the daughter she never had, both of Columbus, Ohio.

Bert was a waitress at The Top Steakhouse in Columbus, Ohio, for 20 years and then as a cook at Southwestern Elementary School for several years before moving to Syracuse, Ohio.  She loved working with and helping children. She loved all animals, especially her dachshunds and cats.  While at Overbrook Center, she loved it when it was “Pet Day”.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Overbrook Center, Middleport, Ohio, and Shriver’s Hospice and Palliative Care, of Athens, Ohio, who provided her loving care.  Bert loved the staff and volunteers working at Overbrook and Shriver’s.

Bert was a member of the First Baptist Church of Racine, Ohio.  A Celebration of Life was held on Sunday, April 14th at 3:00pm with Pastor Duke Holbert officiating.  Bert chose to be cremated with services entrusted to Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Pomeroy, Ohio.
