Donna Jean Smith gained her angel wings at age 89 on June 25, 2026, while at Overbrook Rehabilitation Center, in Middleport, Ohio. She was born on April 23, 1937, to her late parents, Lawrence and Gladys (Dill) Smith.
Donna Jean married Dan Smith on September 2, 1952, in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. She was by Dan’s side while actively talking part in Meigs County Fair, Big Bend Antique Tractor Club, their auction business, D.J.’s Trading Post store, farming, and raising their six kids. She loved to read, work puzzles, collect milk bottles, collect Elvis and Earnhart memorabilia, watch NASCAR and study her Bible. She loved her family and her Carmel-Sutton Church family.
Donna Jean is survived by her 6 children: Don Smith, Racine; Bonnie Myers, Reedsville; Faith Varney, Long Bottom; Tim (Karen) Smith, Racine; Tammy (CT) Chapman, Racine; and Ted (Krista) Smith, Long Bottom and her 14 grandchildren: Jerry (Cheryl) Smith, Jenny (Matt) Ridenour, David Smith, Bridget (Brian) Heldreth, Paul Smith, Amy (Neil) Nelson, Ed Smith, Eric (Jacey) Smith, Terry (Nicole) Smith, Kelly (David) Ferguson, Rachel (Tony) Hupp, Stacy (Nathan) Marcinko, Ryan (Shauna) Chapman, and Brittany Myers (Jeff Fisicaro). She was also very proud of her 32 great-grandchildren and her 14 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Larry (Fona) Smith, of Middleport and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dan, her brothers, Oscar, Lawrence Homer, and Willard Smith, infant sisters, and sons-in-law, Bruce Myers and Terry Varney. Also preceding her in death was her very special cousins, Mary Lou, Carolyn, and James.
Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Racine, with Pastor Mark Mitera and Pastor Larry Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in the Gilmore Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Monday, June 29, from 6-8 p.m. Donna Jean's grandsons will serve as casket bearers.
