It is with great sadness that Edward Dean Merry, 70, of the Rodney Community, went to be with the Lord at 12:48 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024 in the Holzer Medical Center Emergency Department. Born October 5, 1953 in Zanesville, Ohio he was the son of Betty Jane Sayre Merry, of Rodney, and the late James R. Merry. He was a 1971 graduate of Gallia Academy High School and was a retired heavy equipment operator from the Jaymar Corporation. Ed was an avid fan of motorcross racing and NASCAR racing. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Susy Etterling Merry, whom he married December 3, 1987 in Gallipolis, his sons, Steven Merry, of Rodney and Kevin (Samantha) Merry, of Gallipolis, his granddaughters, Abigail and Madison Merry and grandson, Creed Merry. Ed is also survived by his sister, Jennifer (Russell) Henchey, of Rodney, and two brothers, Jimmy (Boudi) Merry and Dave Merry, both of Rodney. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his father, Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Merry, a brother, Jeffrey R. Merry, and a sister-in-law, Anita K. Merry. A Celebration of Life is being planned for July and will be announced. Private interment will be in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. There are no calling hours. Cremeens-King Funeral Home is serving the Merry family.
