Forrest Rom Ramey, passed away, following a brief illness on December 17, 2023 in the Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, surrounded by his loving wife and their family. He was born on the 14th of October in 1942 to Leon and Dolly Avanelle Collins Ramey, who already had a house full of brothers ready to play with him and to steal his pork chop when he didn't guard his plate well enough. He was born and grew up in Athalia, Ohio and graduated from Fairland High School where he was a member of the FFA and played the tuba in the marching band, earning the Music Key his senior year. When he wasn't in school, he was working at the family sawmill business and reading, an activity he enjoyed all his life. After high school, Forrest attended Huntington Business College where he studied to become a male secretary. Forrest was a fast learner and could type and take dictation at 120 words per minute. Shortly after graduation he began working for Comptons in Huntington WV, learning to repair business machines, and then he began a very long career with NCR where he worked until he retired.
He raised a family of four children in Gallipolis, Ohio, where he later met the love of his life, Veneda Sue Ward Ramey, whom he married in 1993 and gained three stepchildren. They enjoyed their life together and made many memories boating on the Ohio River and going dancing. They lived in Gallipolis for many years before relocating to Groveport, OH in 2018. Until Forrest passed away, he and Sue had never spent a night apart in 30 years of marriage.
Forrest is survived by his dearest love, his wife Sue; and his children, Angela Moore (Carl) of Columbus, OH, Cherilyn Ramey, of Gallipolis, OH, Forrest Ramey II (Anne), of Kaneohe, HI, and Jason Ramey, of Houston, TX; as well as his stepchildren, John M. Saunders, of Jackson, OH, Thomas G. Saunders, of Richmond, VA, and Terri S. Saunders, of Groveport, OH. Together, Forrest and Sue enjoyed Sixteen grandchildren: Tara Clayton, Erin Moore, McKenna Cate, Aliza Gardner, Emma Warner, Trenton Ramey, Tyler Ramey, Brook Ramey, Ben Ramey, John Saunders, Joshua Seth Layne, Justin Ray, Shawn Saunders, Austin Saunders, Daymien Thomae, and Dalton Thomae, and seven great grandchildren: Killian Wharton, Evan Wharton, Gabriel Clayton, Hayden Saunders, Nevaeh Saunders, Tucker Ray, and Joseph Saunders whom he loved each and every one of them dearly. His brother, Lee Roy Ramey (Sheila), and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Forrest was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Gary Rex Ramey (Jimmy), and Myron Ray Rame.
A memorial service will be determined at a later date and time. The Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Gallipolis is entrusted with the arrangements.
