Gary Dennis “Denny” Evans, 77, of Racine, passed away, at 9:17 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in the Riverside Methodist Hospital. Born March 20, 1948, in Gallipolis, he was the son of the late Mark Evans and Carolyn Baer Salser who survives in Racine. He was a Coal Miner, member of the United Mine Workers of America, and retired from the Meigs Mine #31 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Portland-Racine Community of Christ where he served as Elder and Co-Pastor. He also was a retired Southern Local School Board Member a position he held for over 34 years. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran, a member of the Racine American Legion Post # 602, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 9053, and a member of the Meigs County Veterans Board.
Denny was an avid racing fan from dirt track racing to NASCAR. He was a member of the Adams Racing team serving in the pit crew. He was a huge fan of The Intimidator Dale Earnhardt.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Linda C. Adams Evans, his children, Rebecca Dawn Evans Taylor, of Racine, Michael Dennis (Michelle) Evans, of Racine, James “Jamie” Allen (Suzanne “Suzie”) Evans, and Melanie (David) George, also of Racine. Grandchildren, Jordan (Hannah) Taylor, Gracelyn Taylor, Andrew (Laken Bartlett) Evans, Kayla (Ryan Laudermilt) Evans, Corbin Sisson, Bradley (Amber Hayman) George, and Steven George, great-grandchildren, Austin Taylor, Bentley Sparks, and Cohen Taylor, step-brothers, Larry Salser, Mark Salser, Tony Salser, also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, August 1, 2025, in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Racine. Rev. Larry Fisher will officiate, and Teacher Joy Neal will assist. Interment will follow in Ours Ottobine Cemetery, Racine with Full military honors provided by local Meigs County Veterans. Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Friday.
