Henry Myers Obituary

Henry Lee Myers of Patriot, Ohio, passed away at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025. He was born April 15, 1936, to parents Chester Myers and Georgiana Pope Myers who preceded him in death. He graduated from Cadmus High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force in June 1955. He married Virginia D. Owens, and they had two children, Christine “Chris” L. Myers-Cozza and Gregory L. Myers.

Henry excelled in high school basketball at Cadmus where he scored a record of 56 points in one game. During his 20-year Air Force career, he retired as an E-7, Master Sergeant. He served in Indiana, California, Missouri, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, England, Vietnam, and Germany. He earned the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal (with two Oak Leaf clusters), Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal.

Upon his retirement in 1975, Henry returned to Patriot and made his home with Pauline Truby Myers, whom he married in 1968. She preceded him in death in 2022. Henry was instrumental in establishing the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail and was an active member for many years. He was a Master Mason and Past Worshipful Master of the Patriot Masonic Lodge #496 of the Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 709, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4464, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 141, American Legion Post 27, Cadot Blessing Camp/Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Gallia County Historical Society, the Ohio Genealogical Society, Air Force Sergeants Association, and the Bethesda United Methodist Church.

Henry is survived by the mother of his children, Virginia D. Owens, his daughter, Chris and her husband, James Cozza, sisters June Cheatham and Charlotte Patrick, nephews Jeff and Randy Patrick and Christopher Myers, nieces Shelbie Myers Willis and Louana Myers. In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his son Gregory, his brothers Chester Eugene, Lloyd Leon and Floyd Donald, his brother-in-law Ronald Patrick and a niece, Anita Myers.

A graveside service with Pastor Jeff Patrick presiding will take place at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, German Ridge Road, Patriot, at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2025. Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Airforce from the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn, Ohio. Pallbearers are Dave Carter, Tom Ingles, Jim Oiler, Henry Patrick, Tom Pope, and Aidan Willis. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Cozza and Alden Wedemeyer. A memorial service will take place at New Life Lutheran Church, 900 Jackson Pike, Gallipolis, 11:00 a.m. January 7, 2026. A fellowship meal will be served following the service.

Chris is very grateful to Tande Pope Rose, Amy Pope Johnson, Tom & Jeanette Ingles, and the staff, and the boys at the Children’s Center. She is also appreciative of Holzer Hospice and the Holzer Medical Center nurses and doctors for their care and compassion.
