Homer R. Hockman, 90, of Gallipolis, passed away, at 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 in the Overbrook Nursing Center, Middleport. Born May 12, 1934, in Logan, Ohio he was son of the late Charles E. Hockman, and Mabel V. Inboden Hockman Snider. Homer graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1952, and on the July 4th 1952, he married Kay I Whitt in Cheshire, at the home of her grandmother, Lottie Vance Roush and she preceded him in death.
Homer was a member of the River of Life United Methodist Church, in Addison, he was over a 50-year member of the Siloam Lodge #456 F&A.M. of Ohio, in Cheshire, and a lifetime member of the Eastern Star.
Homer worked for the Ohio Operating Engineers Local #18, for most of his adult life before working for Cremeans Concrete batching and driving trucks. After retirement, he and his wife Kay, moved to Logan, Ohio and both worked part time at the Walmart in Logan.
He is survived by his four children, Treva and David Caldwell, of Gallipolis, Becky and Davey Meaige, of Gallipolis, Jim and Mary Hockman, of Coeburn, VA., and Billy Hockman, of Gallipolis, ten grandchildren, Sarah Caldwell Cooper, of Gallipolis, Tim and Lori Caldwell, of Middleport, Crystal and David Cox, of Bidwell, Christopher and Shandi Meaige, of Racine, Clarissa (Jermey Spence) Ward, of Cheshire, Casey and Corey Jarvis-Oxyer, of Middleport, Cody and Michelle Coughenour Hockman, of Patriot, Billi and Josh Hutchings, of Blacksburg, VA., Jacob and Courtney Hockman, Blacksburg, Va., and Johnnie Hockman, of Blacksburg, VA., Thirteen great-grandchildren, Trevor Dale, Aiden and Madison Cooper, Layne and Logan Caldwell, Dalton Cox, Hunter and Easton Meaige, Grant and Amelia Ward, Ally and Braxton Spence, Sydney Stout, Piper Michelle Oxyer-Jarvis, Elliet Hutchings, and Aubriegh Hockman, his brother, Nick and Barbara Hockman, of Shawnee, Kansas, a cousin, Orland D. Cremeans, and his “best bud”, Louie Louden and his wife “Little Louie”, who was with him daily to the end, talking guns, hunting, and anything else that came to his mid.
Aside from his parents and his wife Kay, those preceding him in death were his step-father, Ray Snider, of Logan, Oh., and his brother, Noel E. Hockman, of Jamestown, Ohio, brothers-in-law, Harold E. Whitt, and Charles L. Whitt, both of Gallipolis, and John L. Whitt, of St. Albans, Vt., and a grandson, Tyler Ward, of Cheshire, and a granddaughter, Cassie Peck.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Gallipolis, with Pastor Larry Fisher and Pastor Matt McKee officiating. Masonic funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. followed by Eastern Star funeral services. Friend may call starting at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Private family internment will be in the Reynolds Cemetery in Addison.
