James Monroe Harmon

James Monroe Harmon, 81, of Racine, passed away at 4:25 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at his residence. Born August 31, 1944, in Inez, Kentucky, he was the son of the late William and Bertha Carter Harmon. 

James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He loved all his grandchildren but shared a special bond with his lawn mowing buddy, Christian. He founded Harmon Heating and Cooling in 1977, which continues to operate as a family business today. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #2171, a former member of the Racine Village Council, and a member of the Racine Area Community Organization (RACO). He was also a devoted fan of Ohio State football and basketball. 

James is survived by his wife, Linda K. Christian Harmon, of Racine, Ohio, whom he married on April 14, 1972, in Columbus, Ohio; his daughters, Brenda K. Woodruff of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Christine Harmon of Pomeroy, Ohio; his sons, James Monroe (Lori) Harmon II of Logan, Ohio, Bill (Jannelle) Harmon of Racine, Ohio, and John (Sieanna) Harmon of Syracuse, Ohio; his grandchildren, Shauna, Michael, Joshua, Nicole, Angela, Brooke, J.P., Cameryn, Billy, Erica, Elizabeth, R.J., Zachary, Karley, Isabella, and Christian; several great-grandchildren; and many friends and neighbors. 

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son, Larry Edward Harmon; his daughter, Diana Sue Harmon Hall; his sisters, Lula, Edith, Peggy, Thelma, Agnes, and Lillian; and his brother, William. 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Cremeens-King Funeral Home in Racine. Interment will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery, Wellston, Ohio. Friends may visit the family on Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
