John J Born Jr.

John J. Born Jr., 76, Gallipolis (Perry Township), passed away at 3:37 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2024, in the Hospice of Central Ohio at the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. Born September 30, 1948, in Portsmouth, Ohio he was the son of the late John Jesse “Jack” and Doris Mae Bussa Born. John retired after thirty years of service as the dietary manager at the Gallipolis Developmental Center. He was a long-time member of the Gallipolis Church of Christ in Christian Union where he served as First Elder for 45 years.

John is survived by his wife, Marilynn L. “Cindy” Harrison Born, whom he married July 19, 1969 in Circleville, Ohio, his two sisters, Debra E. (Danny) Baer, of Gastonia, North Carolina and Susan (Jeff) Meeks, of Columbus, Ohio, his mother-in-law, Janis M. Harrison, of Gallipolis, sister-in-law, Beth (Marlin) Mooney, of Gallipolis and brothers-in-law, Jay (Georgena) Harrison, Jim (Debbie) Harrison and Jeff (Sandi) Harrison, all of Gallipolis. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Lynas W. Harrison.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024, in the Gallipolis Church of Christ in Christian Union with Pastor Leland Allman officiating. Interment will be in the Centenary Cemetery in Green Township. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Cremeens-King Funeral Home is entrusted with John’s funeral arrangements.
