Kathryn Louise Costen, 98, of Gallipolis passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Sunday May, 18, 2025 in the Holzer Medical Center Hospice Suite. Born February 14, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Clarence C and Florilla Mae Plymale Barcus. She was a member of the Northup Baptist Church and a lifetime member of Weight Watchers. She worked for Gallipolis City Schools and The Gallipolis Developmental Center in food services.
Kathryn is survived by daughters, Linda Lou (Ronnie) Atkins of Luttrell, TN and Brenda Sue (Steve) Gordon of Warfordsburg, PA, a son, William Edward (Kathy) Greene of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, a daughter-in-law, Sandy Pratt Greene of Bidwell, OH, grandchildren, Sherri (Jason) Shriver, Stacy (D.J.) Harden, Jami (Jay) Turner, Billy Greene, Jason Greene, Michael Pratt, Eddie (Terri) Stephens, Shantel (Clayton) White, and Danielle Ireland, 22 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren. Sisters, Ernestine Mooney and Ina Belle Sibley, of Gallipolis, brother-in-law, Willard Keesee, of Patriot, sister-in-law, Cathy Russell, of Gallipolis and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her first husband, Edgar Greene in 1977, her second husband Hobart Costen in 1991, a son James Edgar Greene, a granddaughter, Samantha Matney, a grandson, Paul Pratt, sisters, Addie Jewell, Lola Richards, Donna Keesee, Opal Halfill, and Rebecca Unroe, brothers Ralph Barcus and Ray Barcus, and special friends, Rex Stone and Paul Wilmouth.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Gallipolis, Ohio with Rev. Ben Polley officiating. Interment will follow in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at the Funeral Home.
