Mary O. Ward, 87, Porter community, passed away at 4:54 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at her home. Born September 6, 1936 in Gallia County she was the daughter of the late Coy and Maggie Surber Barr. She was a homemaker and had served as an emergency medical technician with the Gallia County EMS.
She married Homer F. Ward on July 5, 1979 and he preceded her in death on September 5, 2014.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Cathy (Curt) Matheny, of Vinton, Ohio, Robin (Don) Martin, of Bidwell, Ohio, Renee (Gary) Holliday, of Bidwell, Ohio and her son, Matt (Lisa) Queen, of McArthur, Ohio. Grandchildren surviving are Brad (Dawn) Belville, Shawn (Lori) Hawks, David (Korey) Holliday, Wendy (Jason) Wells and Amber (Steve) Campbell. Also surviving are 14 great-grandchildren, her brother, Bill (Jean) Barr, of Kerr, Ohio, stepdaughter, Barbara (Dan) Vroman, of Michigan, brother-in-law, Ron Allison, of Gallipolis, special niece, Sharon Barr, of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son in infancy, James Mark Queen, a loving granddaughter, Ashley Holliday, sister, Ruth Allison, brothers, Kenneth L. Barr and Paul Barr and sisters-in-law, JoAnn Barr, Barbara Barr, Georgie Weiderman and Jesse Kellough.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2024 in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Officiating will be Rev. Mark Williams. Interment will be in the Gravel Hill Cemetery at Cheshire. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as Mary’s casketbearers.
