Phyllis J. Mason, 79, of the Sanders Hill Community of Gallipolis passed away at 11:20 a.m. Monday, November 17, 2025, in the Close to Home Assisted Living in Albany, Ohio. Born January 18, 1946, in Steubenville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Geraldine Hayne Howe. Phyllis retired as Vice President of Human Resources at the University of Rio Grande. She was a long-time member of the Gallipolis First Presbyterian Church where she served as Deacon, Elder, and Clerk of Session. She was a former member of the Rio Grande Women’s Club, Gallia County Animal Welfare League, and the United Way Board of Big Brothers & Big Sisters.
Phyllis is survived by her nieces and nephews and a host of friends who were so special to her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Elizabeth Hayne, her sister, Carole Howe Cantrell, and a nephew, David Cantrell.
Funeral Services will be at 12 noon, Friday, November 21, 2025, in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Gallipolis. Officiating will be Canon W. Brent Sturm O.S.L. Private interment will be in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
